Don't Eat Lipstick

Why we don’t eat lipstick…

As I said in the previous post, I got this idea from my math teacher. It was actually a funny story. Well, funny for me.

Since we were now enjoying applying lipstick, we do it every day! One time, some of our classmates were applying lipstick when our teacher enters the room. We don’t know if he’s serious or something but then he told us this.

“Do you know that Lipstick makes your brain weak?”

Well, something like that!

Of course we all have our own reactions like ‘Why?’, ‘Weh?? ‘Di nga?’, ‘Parang hindi naman!’, ‘Explain?’

Then he explained to us that every lipstick contains ‘Lead’.

Lead!

Lead is a soft, malleable poor metal. It is also counted as one of the heavy metals. Metallic lead has a bluish-white color after being freshly cut, but it soon tarnishes to a dull grayish color when exposed to air. Lead has a shiny chrome-silver luster when it is melted into a liquid.

So he told us to research about it if we doubt what he is saying.

So that’s why I did.

So here’s what I’ve searched. It turns out that that’s not the only effect on our body.
According to this:

Lead, at certain contact degrees, is a poisonous substance to animals, including humans. It damages the nervous system and causes brain disorders. Excessive lead also causes blood disorders in mammals. Like the element mercury, another heavy metal, lead is a neurotoxin that accumulates both in soft tissues and the bones.

A study by US consumer group Campaign For Safe Cosmetics, in October 2007 found 60 percent of lipsticks tested contained trace amounts of lead, especially in red lipsticks. The levels of lead varied from 0.03 to 0.65 parts per million. One third of the lipsticks containing lead exceeded the 0.1ppm limit set by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for lead in candy

Leaded lipstick can cause serious health problems

Recent studies have shown that the chemicals that are often part of the popular cosmetics can cause allergies, heart problems and even lead to infertility. For example, with a typical lipstick includes such harmful ingredients like lead, cadmium, and Perabo and methacrylate. And the most dangerous bears triclosan as a preservative lipstick.
Researchers claim that triclosan causes all kinds of problems with the heart, and can reduce muscle strength.Through the action of triclosan women may later have problems with fertility. This component also increases the levels of male hormones, which can cause problems with excess weight, increased hair growth, and menstrual irregularities, and even lead to infertility.

In addition, “lead is a proven neurotoxin that can cause learning, language and behavioral problems. Pregnant women are particularly vulnerable to lead exposure, because lead easily crosses the placenta and enters the fetal brain where it can interfere with normal development,” said Sean Palfrey, M.D., a professor of pediatrics and public health at Boston University and the medical director of Boston's Lead Poisoning Prevention Program, as quoted in the press release.

So that’s why we DON’T EAT LIPSTICK! Even though most women applying lipstick actually removes it by eating it instead of wiping it off.

And remember... DON’T EAT LIPSTICK!
